SAT Word: Aggrandize

This is my animation video for the SAT word "Aggrandize". I learned quite a lot from this project. Being able to animate and create videos in photoshop is a great skill to have. I learned about the ins and outs of making transitions and such in the timeline panel. I also learned about the special format and rendering needed to start/export the project.

Animation Poster

For this poster I created a blank 9x13 canvas. I inserted the cloud background, and then created a select border around the image. I filled the selected area with white. I then inserted text boxes and filled them with my text, positioning them as needed. I used a downloaded font "for sara" for the title/body text. I then inserted 2 separate tracings of Clark Kent and Superman that I had made. I placed each in different layers, then reduced the opacity of the top layer to have easier viewing for aligning their faces. I aligned their faces, resizing as necessary, and then cropped Clark's side in half. I then merged the layers and placed them on the edge of the cloud/white border.

Text Portrait

The text I used for this project was "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelou.
I believe that no matter how many times we are burned down to ashes, we can always rise again, as Angelou said in this poem. From personal experience, rising after a fall is never easy, but it is always satisfying.
I took this poem very personally.

Adjustment Hue/Saturation

For this lesson, I created an adjustment layer, and changed the Hue/Saturation. I changed the Red, Yellow, and Blue presets to my desired levels. For the sky, I used the dropper tool under the Blue preset on the sky and adjusted the level. I then used the layer mask to remove the Hue/Saturation change on the pants and skin of the subjects.

Adjustment Filters

In this lesson I applied an adjustment layer, and then chose Photo Filter. I used a custom color (deep red) and adjusted to the red shade I liked. I then changed the intensity of the photo filter to achieve the desired effect.

Adjustment Layer Presets

Before:

After:

In this lesson, I used adjustment presets to change the colors of the images. For the first image I made an adjustment layer and used contrast level 3 preset under Levels to change the contrast. I then changed the Red Boost preset under Hue/Saturation to my preference. The Hue/Saturation preference was then saved, and applied to the second image, as well as the Levels change.

Intro to Adjustments

In this lesson I created an adjustment layer and changed the levels as well as the vibrance.

Tile Project

Fonts used:

I really enjoyed this project! To make it possible, I had a friend take my photo while I was writing at my desk. I imported that image into photoshop and selected the pen tool. Using the pen tool, I made curved points around the image. I then made a new layer with a transparent background, selected the pen tool path, and filled it with black. I then opened a new document sized 10"x10" with 300 resolution. I imported the silhouette and made it a smart object, positioning it as I wanted. I then used the font "Bakery" to write out my quote "Next to excellence is the appreciation of it" and "For Sara" for "- William Makepeace Thackeray". I positioned the text to flow with the silhouette, saved it, and uploaded it here!

As for the semester, it has been a blast! I've learned a lot of things in photoshop that I had no previous knowledge of, and had a lot of fun doing it. Mrs. Miller is great, and I really enjoyed having a set amount of time aside to work on my photoshop capabilities. Getting to know classmates through group projects was very fun as well. The video we made as a group was so much fun and I loved editing it. I'm so very happy that it won an oscar award "Most Creative" award! We worked hard on it as a group and I'm glad that paid off. I'd like to thank everyone who made that possible. My mom, who was always ther-- oh. I forgot this doesn't need an acceptance speech. Thanks again for the award Mrs. Miller!

Motivational Quotes Typography

#1 - The typography of this image matches the message perfectly. The message says "Go with the flow" and the text is liquified, giving the illusion of flowing.
#2 - Another great example of the text matching the message. The message is about mistakes and the text represents this by lining up different fonts of the same words, which gives it a feeling of trying to find the perfect font (but not succeeding at first - yet they would not have known if they had not tried a different font)

#3 - With this image, the text is saying to "move...to action" which is very much portrayed by the text position and the way the text is flowing, much like paintbrush strokes.

Typography Animal

I uploaded the original bat image into Photoshop, and then placed text in the Lucida Handwriting font style on top of the image, changing font size and placement as needed.

Anti Bullying poster

I merged the background image (two girls in background) with the image of two girls hugging (front) and adjusted the colors. I then added the phone to the girl's hand who is hugging the other girl. I used a mask to delete the phone from on top of her fingers to make it look like her fingers are around the phone.

I then inserted the iphone text from an image I made on a website.

Pen Tool Parrot

In this lesson I used the pen tool to create a path around a parrot and fill it with green and then outline it in black. This was then repeated for the beak, talons, and eye.
Afterwards, I saved the image and imported it onto the photo of the doctor. Then, I used a mask to fix her hand and make it look like the parrot is on her hand.
